You must also take into consideration that in general you will want to keep a gap of around 450mm between your worktops and the starting height of the Unit. Also consider the highest practical shelf height is around 1060mm above the worktop. Picking the right wall unit depends on a number of things, First off if you have base units already installed you will need to make sure they line up with the units beneath. This will restrict you on the size and position of your kitchen wall units and you haven't got much choice. However if you are free from these limitations I would recommend going as large as you can with the single door units and if you are going with two doors I would recommend an 800mm unit as over time wall units can start to bow in the middle.

You should first check and mark up the wall with a pipe detector. If there are no obstructions you can mark where your wall brackets are going and go ahead and drill your holes ready for raw plugs.

If these is an obstruction where you want to hang your kitchen wall units you will need to look at other ways to fix it. Options could be fixing it to existing units or screwing where suitable straight through the back of the unit to an area of the wall that is free from pipe or wire, bare in mind though to take extra care when fixing like this as there be no adjustment once fixed.
